Bus Rants - 1 of infinite

Yesterday, I had one of the worst bus rides ever. Desperate to reach in time for my accounts class, more for the attendance than the content, I started early, but got stuck in a traffic jam for fifteen minutes and by the time I reached college, I was already fifteen minutes late. If it was not enough that I was carrying two very heavy bags, the frequency of the bus that goes to college has come down terribly and I knew I'd be crushed to death by the time I reached college, I just didn't realize how bad it could be.

I was at the other end of the bus stop when I realized that the bus had finally arrived and had to run all the way down, weighed down and not in very comfortable sandals. I got in to see all the seats taken and two people already standing. I set the bags down, one over the other and stood akimbo ... and then of course the bus had to start with a jerk. And I ended up just having saved myself ... having caught on to a fellow passenger's head. Maybe if it had been under saner circumstances, you could have thought I was giving her an aashirwaad. Right then, I was terrified there was going to be a scene. Luckily, she just gave me a sympathetic smile. Maybe she was used to it, being the size she was .. (how else could I have managed catching hold of her head , even if I was standing at a higher level?)

A few minutes later BigFatGirl nearly pulled me to the floor, but I just turned the other cheek and smiled. Just like me, I could see relief writ large on her face. It helps, this being nice you see, because had I glared at her, my famous charring look, I could not have borrowed her cell a few minutes later, to send an urgent message. (Which reminds me of a joke ... Why did the dog keep chasing its tail? Because one good turn deserves another :D)

In half an hour, I was so surrounded by elbows and heads that I could have easily remained standing without holding on to anything. BigFatLady with FatPurpleSleevedHand, (that was all I could see of her) kept waving some bag she was holding, in my face. Some people think that a certain amount of space belongs to them by birthright. It really gets my goat. I do pity the poor horizontally challenged ones though, they receive so many glares and digs, but I'm sure all that cushioning must be useful.

I finally got off the bus in one piece, lugged both halves of the Titanic to the security guard, (who pitied my poor self and said 'Its okay ma, koi jaldi nahin hai') and ran upstairs, quite afraid that I wouldn't be allowed in ...

All that torture I endured and landed up in class ... only to have the professor dedicate the last class to the students ( a la 'aaj ki shaam aap ke naam') and proceeded to have the whole class sing 'Papa Kehte Hain'! (He seemed to enjoy it so much, that at a particular instant he was the only one singing really loudly and with all the nuances, and then he ended up stuck at a high-pitched 'kyun' and the whole class burst out laughing :D)

The irony of my life! *sob*

The funny thing is that when i get too squished i find i dont need to hold on to anything..its just a tangle of heads and elbows and a bit like being suspended without any support. weird sensation.

Yes, I was the statcounter one. I think I'm your only cyber-stalker. Quite a bit of responsibility that entails, but I'm up to it!
